(1) If you have multiple files to send, you should compress them into one zip file. This is easily done by going into your computer directory and selecting the directories/files that you wish to send. After you select the files, click the right mouse button and select “Send To”. Under “Send To”, select “Compressed (zip) Folder”. This makes a copy of all the files selected and puts them into one zip file.(Note: If you are only sending one file, you do not need to perform this step.)
(2) Go to https://ftp.arsnet.usda.gov/Fileshare and in the upper left corner, select “File Management” and then “My Files”.
(3) This will take you to a Login and Password screen. Use your ARS Email address and your normal ARS computer login (unfortunately this does not work by eAuthentication at the moment but Integration is on the way).
(4) Once logged in, you will be taken to a screen that should be fairly self explanatory. Upload the file you want to Share. Share the file by selecting “Share File” and then enter each email address that you want to allow to share the file.
(5) After entering the email address, select “>” to put it in the list and then you can add another email address if you desire. Once you have all your email address inputted, provide a password for the Sharer to open the file.
(6) After all the email addresses are entered and you select “Share” , two emails will be sent to each person in the email list. One email will provide the link to the shared file and the other will provide the password to open the link. The file will remain on the ARS FTP site for 30 days.
